VAPA Scholarships – Mischewski Award for Excellence in Dance

VAPA’s scholarships offer free learning opportunities for disadvantaged kids living in Hoi An. Recipients of the Mischewski Award receive a dance scholarship offering 20 hours of private dance tuition, free of charge!

Classes will cover the fundamentals of dance across multiple styles, with a focus on a dance of the recipient’s choosing.

And in addition to honing their craft, recipients of this award will develop their English and communication skills, along with the confidence essential to elevating themselves from hardship.

With further funding raised via our sponsorship program, we hope to double the hours of training provided by 2021.

A message from Kate:

“It is with the fullest of hearts and greatest of pride that I announce the Mischewski Award for Excellence in Dance. This award will given out annually, in recognition of the passion and commitment shown by an aspiring young dancer.

I had the honour of working closely with Anton during the final months of his life. Subsequently, that experience played an astronomical role in shaping the person I am today.

Anton cared about people and believed in their potential. He showed me what it means to walk alongside someone. That is to say that he captured—so very beautifully—the essence of VAPA’s core values: trust, integrity, creativity, equality, diversity, inclusivity, emotional intelligence, social justice, wellbeing and community.

For that reason, not only does this award acknowledge the recipient’s skill and passion for developing their craft; it also honours their ability to ensure VAPA remains a safe, inclusive space. One in which everyone feels heard, encouraged, supported and empowered.”
